Groundbreaking digital platform for a better World Cup experience through mobile
With Geztio’s digital marketing platform, participants, visitors and partners during Skitour 2020 could buy tickets, received offers and information directly on their mobile phones, tailored to their needs based on location, time and AI-driven analysis.

Background

Geztio was commissioned to develop the World Cup event, Skitour 2020’s digital solution with ticket sales, event app, website and customer data analysis. The main purpose of the solutions was to create a simple and uniform digital experience of Skitour 2020 for visitors and fans on the couch in front of the TV. Ski fans and visitors to Skitour 2020 were informed about the event through Geztio’s groundbreaking mobile technology and could easily buy tickets on their mobile and on the web.
Through notifications, changes to the program, fresh results and news were communicated in real time. Premium ads sold to partners generated significant revenue to the organisation. Together with social media feeds and streamed event and highlight clips, the platform was a tool for the visitor that made their experience of Skitour 2020 better and easier. Geztio’s research-based, digital app platform solution, CMS backend system and data analysis became a success factor for Skitour 2020.

Web app - Ski tour
- All results, social media, news and info were available on the web.
- Tickets and parking could be purchased online.

- Advertisements and sponsors were exposed on the web.
- Data was collected online and displayed in Skitour’s account in Geztio BI.
- Administration of the app and website was handled via Geztio’s CMS.
- Youtube playlists were integrated.
- SVT and NRK’s broadcasts were integrated into the website.
- Social media and a social media wall could be viewed on the web.

Social media
- Facebook, Instagram, etc. feeds were displayed in the app.
- Easy for app users to follow social media through one platform.

YouTube
- YouTube playlists were displayed in both the app and the web.


Notification system
Openback notification system was implemented in the app and via its admin panel notifications were created in advance to create added value for the visitor and partners. Geographically controlled notifications enabled different messages to different areas and target groups and gave the visitor the right information at the right place and at the right time. Offline functionality meant that notifications worked when the app was not connected. The system was also used to push survey questions via the notifications. Openback was sold to Twitter in 2022 and we now work with OneSignal with even stronger functioinality!

- Linked to any website and displayed it in the app.
- Displayed partner content in the app.
- Linked to partner web shops or information pages and gave target groups a better experience.

Ads
An advertising system for sponsors and advertisers was available in the app. Geographically targeted ads enabled location-based advertising and increased advertising opportunities. The ads were sent to Geztio, which placed the ads according to instructions. Placement and share of voice parameters for the ads were managed by Geztio via the company’s advertising system.
Ticket sales - app & web
The QR coded ticket was delivered via email and as an SMS with a link to the ticket and with login to the customer’s “my pages. Among other things, entrance tickets, sponsor tickets, parking tickets, etc. were handled through the Geztio app system.
POS Sales
Tickets sold in the entrances via the mobile POS system were printed as QR codes on the mobile receipt printer. The tickets were scanned via a robust Android phone with a laser scanner and by the system’s scanning app. Sales statistics were displayed in the Geztio BI system except for POS sales which were displayed through the ticket system.

Geztio BI - Business Intelligence
Geztio BI collected data from the apps, the web, the online ticket shops and from the ticket provider. Any ticket provider can be implemnteted into Geztio.
All organizations had access to the same account through personal logins.
Sales figures from the ticket provider were continuously collected into the account and showed sales via the online shops and corporate sales. Web and app traffic data as well as guest night statistics for the host cities Åre and Östersund were stored in Geztio BI and could be analyzed through the system.
